How it works...

LION - Local Investing Opportunities Network - is not a loan or investment fund, and it does not make collective investment decisions. Our membership consists of local citizens who want to invest their money locally, thereby putting their investing money to work within our community. Keeping funds local facilitates greater economic self-sufficiency, job growth, economic development, and a dollar-multiplier effect whereby a dollar kept within the community can be spent many times over for a far greater benefit than a dollar invested away from our community.

What's possible:

We are forming the core group of  members to enable Cayuga LION for Ithaca and Tompkins County, and of course anyone interested is welcome to get into conversation and be networked into the group. As a charter group member your commitment is twofold: to consider making an investment in a local business; provide some of your time and energy to make our local LION operational this year.

If you have any questions please contact Fred at:

If you are an interested local investor who thinks LION may make sense for you, please consider membership in LION. We have a simple application process that begins with a new member application form. To help us stay focused on what LION is and is not,  LION members sign a membership agreement that details matters of procedure, confidentiality, and dispute resolution.

Opportunities that could receive local investor support (via loans or equity) may include:
  • Business start-up
  • Business expansion
Specific details regarding the nature of an investment are worked out and agreed upon between individual investors and owner/borrowers, not by Cayuga LION for Ithaca and Tompkins County.
